MOLD 009 Symbol: Man (5 rays emanating from the center) on Earth (triangles between the rays) surrounded by sunshine. The symbol represents the idea of harmonious life on this bountiful Earth. While the symbol comes from the ancient Russian tradition, I was not surprised to see similar symbols on some of Native American artifacts - which only speaks to the universality of this symbol. A similar symbol of a five-pointed star was laid by Leonardo da Vinci in the foundation of his famous work on the proportions of human body and the golden section (the latter representing an omnipresent proportions in all living things and was used by Egiptians in construction of the Great Pyramid).Wood: sassafras (Sassafras albidum). Sassafras, a tree in the Laurel family, has extremely fragrant wood. This mold has a lasting exquisite smell of wintergreen and natural beeswax. The mold is traditionally treated: held over live fire (to slightly tan & burn the surface of the mold to highlight the beautiful symbolic pattern and natural beauty of sassafras wood), permeated with 100% natural beeswax (to seal wood's pores and make it waterproof and durable), and covered with 100% organic food grade linseed oil (to add a glossy shiny look).
